Advent Devotionals 2016
Seeking Writers and Submissions
Last year Pastor Kimby offered a daily advent devotional created from pieces she had written over 30 years. This year we would like to produce a daily Advent Devotional book composed by different members of the congregation. We need 28 devotionals. Please consider writing or submitting a short reflection to be included in the book this year. You may also submit more than one devotional if you have lots of ideas. If you would be willing, please contact pastor Kimby or sign up on the sheet in the narthex.
Creativity is welcome. You could use a hymn to inspire you or share a story about a holiday or church memory. You could share what a certain passage of scripture means to you or offer a reflection about a concern in the world. You could share something someone else has written or you could talk about why your faith is important to you. Really any offering is welcome.
Traditional weekly Advent themes include hope, love, joy and peace. Other advent ideas are about light, faith, incarnation, anticipation, preparation, waiting, seeking, eagerness, response, transformation, the presence of Christ, the Spirit of God, and living as Christians in the world. If you would like a list of seasonal scripture to choose from, contact Pastor Kimby.
Keep it short – 2-3 paragraphs – 200-300 words – so it fits on one half page. You may include a title, a scripture verse, and a prayer in addition to the reflection. Or you may just submit the reflection. Entries are due by Monday, November 7, so we have time to assemble the books. Devotional booklets will be available to pick up the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Advent begins November 27.
