First Presbyterian Church supports a number of ongoing mission outreach programs, as well as occasional extra special projects.  We are always looking for more ways to care and share in the community and around the world.  Contact Pastor Kimby if you have some suggestions for programs to support.

Food Pantry Donations – Grocery baskets are open at entryways at all times to receive donations of nonperishable food items.  You may drop off your items at any time the doors are unlocked.  Periodically donations are taken to the Gardner Multi-Service Center for distribution.

Care Portal – works to connect children in need to local churches addressing a full range of needs.   It is a service of Johnson County in which we participate as a member partner.  Physical, resource and financial needs are cleared by a social worker or other official and posted to a group of participant churches.  Those who have the resources to meet the need respond.  In the end children and families are helped in concrete ways.  You do not have to be a church member to participate.

SafeHome – First Presbyterian Church has long been a supporter of Johnson County SafeHome.  SafeHome is a shelter for domestic violence, also offering a hotline, anonymous resources, support through the legal system, and various domestic violence prevention programs.  It is a strong local resource for the most vulnerable in our local area.  We have supported the program with physical and financial needs.  This is a favorite mission for our women’s groups to support.

Strengthening Families Program – is designed to offer parenting classes to families who might need a little help, and some concrete skills for good parenting practices. The families are referred by agencies (foster care, corrections, mental health, school districts, etc.) and must agree to fully participate.  The program lasts 14 weeks and is offered through Johnson County Mental Health with support from local churches and agencies.  We were the host site for the first program in Gardner offered in the fall of 2016.

Operation Christmas Child – is an international program sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse in which churches worldwide partner to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Jesus Christ by offering Christmas boxes packed with love and specific items.  First Presbyterian Church joins with other local churches to provide boxes each year.  In 2016, we decided to take monthly collections of specific items in order to collect a larger supply for more boxes for our November packing party.

PCUSA Offerings – We support all of the Presbyterian Church USA annual offerings.  More information about each of these is available under a different tab on this website.
